SEA Games 31 was originally scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 2, 2021. However, on June 9, 2021, the Vietnam Olympic Committee proposed that the SEA Games 31 be held in July 2022 due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

SEA Games adalah singkatan dari Southeast Asian Games. Acara ini diadakan secara dua tahunan dan melibatkan 11 negara Asia Tenggara saat ini. Kesebelas negara Asia Tenggara tersebut adalah Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapura, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Myanmar, Filipina, Laos, Kamboja, dan Timor Timur.

BTC SEA Games 30 chính thức thông báo lễ khai mạc của đại hội thể thao Đông Nam Á sẽ được diễn ra tại nhà thi đấu trong nhà. Đây là lần đầu tiên một lễ khai mạc SEA Games không được tổ chức ở SVĐ.

31st SEA Games Esports will be featured as a medal sport at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines in at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila from December 5 to 10, 2019.
